Sumidero Canion Park

A park with a natural calling
Discover, within the Ecotouristic Park Sumidero Canion, a new dimension of this exceptional place. Explore its natural setting and enjoy exciting outdoor activities in an atmosphere of environmental awareness and cultural respect. Your journey begins in Chiapa de Corzo, a charming colonial city at the edge of the Grijalva River, where steps away from the old Santo Domingo Convent, you'll encounter your point of departure to this extraordinary adventure.

Your boat ride will take you past magnificent views of the canyon and impressive geological formations found in the cliffs and the river's edges such as the Cave of Silence, The Cave of Colors, and the stately Christmas Tree, among other attractions. The journey culminates as the narrow canyon opens onto a sun-kissed valley and magical waterfalls spring to form extensive green gorges. Lying in the heart of this imposing scenery is the Ecotouristic Park Cañón del Sumidero, ever respectful of its environment, where, with all your senses, you'll enjoy to the fullest this awesome place.

Discover your nature
The park is an immense botanical garden filled with welcoming paths that invite you to know its flora: orchids, bromelias and ceiba trees; and its native fauna: crocodiles, jaguars, pumas, great curossaws, black spider monkeys, and wild boars, among others.
Along the way you will see thousand-year-old fossils native to the region. In the expansive aviary you'll be able to admire the flight of hundreds of multicolored birds, singing their melodic trills or squealing their sensual squawks.

Adventure
The park is also an exuberant jungle, with narrow paths that lead to springs, streams and waterfalls, making it the ideal place for a long walk or an exciting expedition on a mountain bike. At the top of the gorge you will find the zip line station from where you will be able to glide through the heights above the tree tops or if you dare, rappel to special spots inaccessible by any other means. Back in the lagoon, you'll be tempted to cruise the waters in a comfortable and secure kayak to reach other nearby destinations.

How to get there.
You can make arrangements through your travel agent or you can hire a taxi or take a bus which will take you to one of the ports in Chiapa de Corzo. From there you will take a breath-taking 40 minute trip by boat to the Park.
